Leading Autoclave Manufacturer Awarded $140k Workforce Grant Written by: Jason Thompson January 31, 2020, (BILLERICA, MASS.) – Consolidated Sterilizer Systems was recently awarded a $143,500 grant by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as part of the Workforce Training Fund Program (WTFP). This funding presents an exciting opportunity for Consolidated to train their employees in many areas of the business. Employees will receive training in lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, sales techniques, and leadership development. The WTFP was founded in 1999 in the interest of “[addressing] business productivity and competitiveness by providing resources to Massachusetts businesses to fund training for current and newly hired employees.” The WFTP is a subsidiary of the Commonwealth Corporation, a quasi-public workforce development agency that fosters partnerships between industry, education and workforce organizations. Since the beginning of the Baker-Polito Administration, the Commonwealth Corporation has administered over $60 million in funding through the WFTP, including nearly $7.5 million in 2019, alone. “We’re very grateful to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and CommCorp for awarding us the funds to invest in training. We’re excited for our employees to learn and apply new skills,” said Arthur Trapotsis, CEO of Consolidated Sterilizer Systems. “The training will help us facilitate a learning and development culture that supports employee engagement and advancement from within.” Trapotsis also announced intentions to partner with GBMP, a non-profit that specializes in lean manufacturing training and continuous improvement. Ultimately, Trapotsis is hopeful that this grant will help the company not only improve its employee retention efforts, but also grow its workforce. “It’s important that we continually invest and reinvest in our workforce, especially in such a tight labor market,” he said. “This funding will give us the opportunity to do that, as well as create new jobs and grow our headcount.” This project is funded by a Workforce Training Fund grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The grant program is administered by Commonwealth Corporation. About CSS Consolidated Sterilizer Systems has manufactured steam sterilizers (autoclaves) in the USA since 1946. 6.30.23 Top 13 Sterile Processing Mistakes in Hospitals → When it comes to ensuring patient safety in hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), the Sterile Processing Department (SPD) is among the last lines of defense. 6.22.23 Sterilization vs. High-Level and Low-Level Disinfection [a 3-Point Comparison] → In a 1939 paper, microbiologist Earle H. Spaulding introduced a system for determining which medical devices and instruments needed disinfection and which ones required sterilization. In it, he proposed that critical instruments would need to be subjected to more stringent disinfection protocols than non-critical patient care items. Today, this framework is fittingly known as Spaulding […]
